Apple Sued Over The iCloud Name

Well, this shouldn't surprise anyone. Just like with the iPhone, and iPad, Apple has been hit with another lawsuit over the use over the iCloud name. Phoenix, Ariz.-based iCloud Communications has filed a suit in the U.S. District Court in Arizona, claiming trademark infringement against Apple over the iCloud name. In addition, iCloud Communications claims that Apple's new mobile-streaming service is identical to that of their own business model. The company provides VoiP and broadband solutions in Phoenix and surrounding areas. "The goods and services with while Apple intends to use the 'iCloud' mark are identical to or closely related to the goods and services that have been offered by iCloud Communications under the iCloud marks since its formation in 2005," the complaint says. Surely, Apple is going to have some explaining to do as this isn't the first time the company has been accused of trademark infringement. In 2007, Cisco claimed they were first in introducing the iPhone name with a VoiP phone by them and in 2010 Apple had to fend off Fujitsu for the rights to the iPad name. Whether iCloud Communications will back down from their lawsuit or hand over the name to the Cupertino, Calif.-based giant, remains to be seen. Apple's iCloud service has so far received rave reviews after making its much-anticipated debut this past week.
